LONG BIT went into contention in the opening three-sixteenths, moved through on the inside rounding the far turn and, wearing down PRIMER for the command, drew away, although kept under urging to the close. JOLLY on the outside while in pursuit of the pace, responded willingly to punishment and closed with good energy. PRIMER drew clear in the run through the back stretch, and faltered when challenged through the stretch run, although never threatened for third. GRAND ANNA, away fast, dropped back steadily, then came again in the drive through the stretch. DIXIE FLAPPER had early speed. JESSIE V. MORITZ was not hurried during the early stages, moved up stoutly when leaving the back stretch, wore down WISE KING and, hard ridden, lasted to hold LOLOMA safe. The latter was well placed all the way, came through on the inside through the last three-sixteenths and finished willingly under pressure. WISE KING supplanted DEAN SWIFT from the command and only faltered in the closing eighth. TELLINGYOU was outpaced early and came with a belated rush, through the stretch. DEAN SWIFT faltered after going the opening three-eighths. NIPANTUCK was right up with the pace, attempted to go through on the inside rounding the far turn, was impeded sharply and had to take up. RETLAW went to the front at once, opened up a daylight advantage over his closest pursuer in the opening eighth and dominated the running throughout. BRYONIN went into contention in the opening eighth after breaking in the middle of the pack and, despite hard riding, was unable to reach the leader. BOB C. went in the first flight throughout and continued with good courage to the end. CLAP IN dropped back after rounding the far turn, although closing with good energy when the test came. GRAPE THIEF was well placed but unable to make up anything in the drive. TIGHTMOUTH was never prominent. ENAC was far back all the way and showed a dull effort. BE JUST was prominent all the way, came wide into the stretch, drew clear at the eighth post but had to be hard ridden at the end to stall off the bid of CHARWITCH. The latter, well up and restrained early, came gamely in the stretch run. LOTTAFUN had speed from the start, was much used in racing with the winner and carried wide into the stretch, faltered in the drive. BROWNEYED PAT was unable to keep pace early went into contention after rounding the far turn came "through on the inside at the stretch turn when the leaders went wide but was unable to close any ground in the drive to the finish. AURA, far back early, was going willingly at the close. BALKANESE, outrun early, made up some ground through the stretch. GUY FAWKES had speed from the start, disputed the early command with CHICOLORADO, showed lightly in command while under slight reserve for the first half mile, increased his lead in the stretch and held on willingly to the end under a brisk hand ride. CHICOLORADO was in nearest pursuit of the pace and under urging while racing on the outside of the leaders, was placed under punishment, but was unable to wear down the winner. SUN CAPTURE was quickest to start, although unable to keep pace with the first two. JACKIE D. was unable to close any ground under urging. His rider bided his time on the inside and, getting clear sailing, moved up stoutly on the inside through the stretch, drawing out as if much the best. JAMES RIVER was reserved early, came with good courage in the stretch drive and finished well up. GREY SHOT was reserved while holding to a forward position but was unable to keep pace in the closing drive. RUDENIA was much used up in racing with LANDSCAPE in the first three-quarters.
