PARADE VETERAN SIRE CUDGEL I Montreal Fans Cheer Twenty-Three-Year-Old Stallion at Blue Bonnets Once Great Racer. MONTREAL, Canada, June 21. Cudgel, twenty-three-year-old son of Broomstick and Eugenia Burch, the property of the Ver-cheres Stable of Hon. Donat Raymond, master of Vercheres Farm, was paraded before the stand at Blue Bonnets this afternoon and was given an ovation by the fans. Cudgel has stood in Canada for many years and was first the property of J. K. L. Ross, when he raced a powerful stable on the American turf, and later the property of Joseph Cattarinich and was purchased by Raymond when he took over the Vercheres Farm. Cudgel has sired numerous Canadian-breds, such as Crofter, St. Michael, Pestle, Colored Artist and many others. He was shipped to James Speares in western Canada last year and stood there until returned to Ontario, where he stood on the farm of F. H. Schelke until last week,, when he was returned to Montreal with the Vercheres Stable horses. Crofter, seven-year-old son of Cudgel and. Step On, one of Cudgels best get, was also returned to Montreal and his weak underpinning has been so slow in responding to treatment that he also will-be returned to the farm and turned put.
