WASHINGTON PARK FUTURITY MAY GROSS 0,000 NEED ELEVEN STARTERS Numerous Preliminary Races This Week for Juvenile Stars. Milky Way Farm Has Six and Calumet Farm Stable Seven Nominees Easterners Expected. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 21. Although handicapped somewhat by rain and chilly weather the past two weeks, some dozen to fifteen two-year-olds, representing the best in the West and including some Eastern performers as well, are pointing this week for the first running of the Washington Park Futurity. This six furlongs event, to be inaugurated on the final day of the thirty-day meeting, Saturday, June 26, will have a value making it the richest of the south-side tracks stakes. Endowed with 5,000 in added money, the Futurity will have a gross value of more than 0,000 should eleven start. Numerous chances for the youngsters to get a tightening race under their belts this week will be afforded by racing secretary Charles McLennan, but with prospects for poor track conditions prevailing today, none, of the Futurity possibilities wanted to fake a chance, nevertheless, it is likely that ai dozen, possibly more, will pay the ,000 starting fee and shoot for the biggest prize yet handed out this season for the youngsters. PERPETUATE ELIGIBLE. Word still is being awaited from George Odom, who trains Perpetuate from the eastern sportsman R. L. Gerry, but it is considered probable that the double stakes winner will be here to represent the East. Perpetuate, a son of Infinite Citrus, won the Juvenile at Belmont Park, and the Tremont Stakes at Aqueduct. Word has been received from the East that Cleveland Putnam is shipping a candidate, probably Robber Bold, for the race and will arrive on Wednesday. The other Putnam eligible is Wacky Jack. Meanwhile, a warm reception is planned by the candidates of four big Western stables, all of which may start two in the big race. They are the Milky Way and Calumet Farms of Chicago, the Valdina Farms of Texas and Hal Price Headley of Kentucky. Of the seven Calumet candidates it is Teddy Weed and Pharacase which appear most likely to carry Warren Wrights colors, . although there is some chance that Bull Lea will start should the track be fast For Mrs. Ethel V. Mars, it is apparently Mountain Ridge and Tiger which are pointing for a Futurity win, though she has four other eligibles, including War Bridge, John One, Fire Marshall and Quick Getaway. HEADLEY REPRESENTATIVE. Hal Price Headley is expected to start Bourbon King, which raced so well in the East behind The Chief in his first two starts, having a rough trip on the second occasion in the National Stallion Stakes. Continued on thirty-ninth page. WASHINGTON PARK FUTURITY MAY GROSS 0,000 Continued from first page. Bourbon King is to be accompanied by Menow, which scored in his most recent start at Washington Park. As for the Val-dina Farms, they. have Lassator, winner of the Prairie State Stakes earlier in the meeting and either Diavolo Boy or Teddys Comet. While these four stables appear to hold the power for the West against whatever turns up from the East, there are other probable starters which include the Wool-ford Farms Joe Schenck, the Millsdale Stables Garry, Mrs. John Hertz Gipsy Minstrel and the Bomar Stables Detroit Bull. Measured in dollars and cents and in future possibilities, Washington Park is the center of two-year-olds right now. With only a few exceptions, the best of the youngsters that have been uncovered so far are here and there are many others who trained so slowly that they have either yet to start or yet to come to their top form.
