FIDDLE FADDLE, under stout restraint until midway through the back stretch, moved up stoutly nearing the far turn, readily wore down the leaders when called upon, opened up a good lead and was never threatened. BOSTON LAD alternated in setting the pace with BALLAD, shookoff the" latter, but was unable to go along with the winner when challenged. SCOTCH JUDGE, outpaced until the last three-eighths, closed much ground during the stretch run. BALLAD displayed good speed for the first three-quarters, tiring gradually thereafter. SAXOPAL was taken under slight restraint after gaining a forward position and was not called upon for improved speed until the closing three-quarters, then moved into contention with a rush and had enough in reserve to hold GRANDPAS BOY safe through the last eighth. GRANDPAS BOY was forced to work his way up through the field to gain a forward position, moved up on the inside of the leaders at the eighth post and, while holding on stubbornly, was not quite good enough. SEA DOVE, reserved until leaving the back stretch, moved up to gain a slight lead, but was unable to maintain his advantage under punishment. BRASS MONKEY trailed his field early as usual, then closed with a rush. SUN ASIA was prominent while in the thick of contention for three-quarters, then tired thereafter. CRAP SHOOTER raced well for the opening three-quarters. MOUNT ECHO retired steadily in the last five-sixteenths. DINNER JACKET, never far from the lead, was lightly restrained until straightening out in the stretch, readily wore down the leader and, hard ridden, had enough left to hold BABY SWEEP. The latter-worked his way up gradually, came through on the inside entering the stretch and finished with good courage. BRAIN TRUST, outpaced for the first half mile, lost considerable ground on the stretch turn, then closed with good energy through the last three-sixteenths. VOTE BOY attempted to run away while on the way to the post, showed speed for the first half mile, then tired steadily thereafter. WISE PLAYER was running over his field during the last sixteenth after being outrun early. FOGGY MORN quit badly during the stretch run. BUDDY moved to the front, regained the lead when called upon and. meeting determined opposition from LINAS SON, drew clear at thoflj end. LINAS SON moved through on the inside through the back stretch to gain a forward position, made! a bold bid to reach the leader, but was not quite good enough. MR. BUDDY displayed speed, but was unable to go along with the first two in the closing test. MAEBOB was prominent all the way. OCLEARY was away slowly and closed an immense gap under weak handling. FERRYBOAT, steadied along within striking distance of the pace for the first three-eighths, was unable to make up any ground under punishment. GALA STAR was unable to threaten.
