RIFTED CLOUDS VICTORIOUS Commentator, Winners Stablemate, Accounts for Third Place by Head. Class D Handicap Main Event at Jamaica T. P. Morgans Silks Triumph in Maiden Contest. . JAMAICA, N. Y., Oct. 10. Rifted Clouds, fleet but faint-hearted daughter of Insco and Green Leaf in the Woolford Farm establishment, gave that outfit its second score for the Jamaica season when she drove to a half length victory in the Catalan Handicap, the class D event which featured todays competition at that grounds. Pressing her closest at the finish was the King Ranchs Sunsun, with Commentator, stablemate of the winner, four lengths away as he saved third money from the swiftly closing Scrooge by a head. The Missouri-owned maid skipped over the distance in 1:12, in what was her ond autumn triumph in this territory, as well as her second of the year. The entry at all times was in great demand, going to the post at even money, after opening at 6 to 5. This also was the third western score of the day, as the Texan, T. P. Morgan, accounted for the secondary attraction with the first time starter, Hy Camp, and Doubt Not took the opener for Calumet Farm, maintained by Warren Wright of Chicago. ADVANTAGE AT START. The start was most advantageous for Rifted Clouds, as Rollins had her away like a flash from her rail station and she quickly gained a clear advantage over her half a dozen rivals. She scooted along in this fashion to the head of the stretch where Sunsun moved up on the outside in menacing fashion to be lapped on the pacemaker the other side of the furlong post. However, she responded better than anticipated when placed under the whip, while Sunsun began to tire. This enabled her to. maintain a half length lead down to the final, post. - Sunsun, a two-time winner at Belmont in the spring, was making his first appearance since late May at Belmont Park. He always was in closest pursuit of the winner, moving up stoutly at the top of the stretch but hanging in the final sixteenth. It is probable he needed the race and a better performance should result next out. Commentator, beaten off in two previous Long Island starts, displayed considerable improvement in this dash, beingright there all the way and showing good courage under hard pressure through the stretch. Scrooge dropped back to last place at the half mile ground and then came with a rush in the stretch when the race was practically over. Grey Count showed a bit of early speed. -HY CAMP SCORES. T. P. Morgan, who has a crackerjack filly in his barn in the unbeaten Smart Crack, showed New York a runningmate in the " gelded Hy Camp, a son of Hygro and Campion. This fellow turned in the swiftest five and a half furlongs of the meeting when he completed the distance in 1:05 in the dash which preceded todays feature, winning with speed to spare and by a wide path of daylight. Five lengths back, the public choice, Day Off, closed with a belated rush to take second place by four lengths, with Skyflier just nosing Challenge out of third money. The winner was the strongest sort of a paddock tip, going to the post second choice at 16 to 5, after opening at 3 to 1.
