The latter moved to contention with a rush, had a slight lead turning into the stretch and, continuing gamely, just failed to last. UNION lacked early speed, came out for the final drive and finished gamely. PAKALA tired in the final seventy yards. OVERPLAY faltered in the last sixteenth. CHARLIE H. had no mishap.
