LUCKY OMEN BACK IN FORM Gives Be.st Display at Laurel Since Realization Defeat. Favorites Have Rough Time at Maryland Track Jockey Lucas Dupps Days Saddle Star. LAUREL, Md., Oct. 10 Making his first appearance in silks since his disappointing performance in the Lawrence Realization Stakes, Lucky Omen, from the Fairf ields Stable of Mrs. W. S. Kilmer, returned to winning form when he won the Easton Purse, an allowance affair for three-year-olds that served as the chief offering, as the second full week of racing began at Laurel Park today. Opposed by six others of his ago, the showing of the Gino three-year-old was a scintillating one, when he ian the one mile distance in 1:39, to be one length before E. R. Bradleys Bar Fly for the third riding score during the afternoon for jockey Lucas Dupps, who was seen astride Melody Maid and Burner, earlier in the day. In the best race third went to the lot of Foxcatcher Farms Roscretter, and John One led home Blind Eagle, Pretty Pet and Bold Stroke, the only others engaged for the eight furlongs journey. N JOHN ONE LEADS. The Easton was served fifth on the program and the start came after a cne-minute delay, with all away in good order and John One having the most speed to take up the pace in smooth manner. He went along with Bold Stroke at his heels, while Tiv Fly was entrenched in third place several lengths in advance of Pretty Pet, who had; Lucky Omen at her flanks. In the run down the far side, John Oncj supplied a swift pace for Bold Stroke to! follow and at the final turn the J. C. Brady gelding called it a day, which permitted Bar. Fly to drive into second place, while the others came up fast to be bunched on the last turn. John One was tiring in front as the home lane was reached, and it saw Lucky Omen come out of the dust to be in , front a furlong from home. In the last eighth the Fairfields colt drew out safely to be one length to the fore at the end. Bar Fly stuck it out nicely, to have an equal margin over Roseretter, who came from last place. , Once again conditions were ideal for the sport, and for the first time since the rain of Friday, the racing surface was fast. A. crowd of average size saw the sport that resulted in many reverses for favorites. OLD SPRINTERS MEET. Older sprinters, ranging in price from ,500 to ,000, met in the opening event, which was a dash of six furlongs, and it gave jockey J. Renick his first riding success here when Chimney Top was best in the number, to register for P. Da Lee Watts. Lightly considered in the wagering, Chimney Top, a keen contender in the decision of the contest that brought out a dozen starters, landed across the line leading Suburbanite, while third went to Crestonian when she beat Owaller by a neck. For the first time in Maryland during the present autumn session two-year-olds were asked to travel farther than six furlongs, in the mile and seventy yards of the third race. In this Burner, from the locally owned William M. Elder stable, proved best, with her victory coming in a hard drive when she took the measure of H. E. Simpsons Barker after a long stretch battle. Third went to W. F. Hitts Repeller, with Tomoca in advance of eight other juveniles. A .
