BARRETT MUTUEL PLANT HEAD A. E. Weidekamps Assistant to Have Charge of Wagering at Coming Shreveport Meeting. SHREVEPORT, La., Oct. 10. George Barrett will have charge of the mutuel department during the twenty-five day meeting at the Shreveport Fair Grounds track, it was announced today by officials of the half-mile plant, which opens its season October 22. Barrett, who is connected with the mutuel department at Hawthorne at this time, is chief assistant to A. E. Weidekamp and is employed on many of the largest tracks in the country. Besides Hawthorne, Barrett serves at such well known tracks as Churchill Downs, Arlington Park, Lincoln Fields and others, and after the local meeting comes to an end on November 19, will leave lor Santa Anita, where he also is connected with the mutuel department. Barrett will bring with him as chief assistant Willard Wingate, who also is well known in the mutuel departments of tracks all over the country. Their organization also will include several others who long have been identified with the same line of work. All clerks in the mutuel department will come from this community.
