:9 JOSEPH A. MURPHY SEVERS HIS DETROIT CONNECTIONS ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 25. Joseph A. Murphy left this morning for his annual duck shooting trip as the guest of the Lake Arthur Club at Lake Arthur, Louisiana. Before leaving he announced that he had forwarded to Clarence E. Lehr, president of the Detroit Racing Association his resignation as Director of Racing and Presiding Steward of the Association. "During the six years that I have served the association, I have made so many friends among the Detroit people, the sport writers and local breeders and owners" he said, "that I am withdrawing from Detroit racing with considerable regret. I have served under three commissioners: Mark Hanna, Joe Frost and Ed Fry, all fine men, and it has been largely through their support and co-operation that Detroit has never suffered a major scandal in its racing. I have told president Lehr that he .may call on me at any time for advice in a suituation which on account of conditions has become difficult."
