First Kiss Makes Fine Impression in Going "Six Furlongs in 1:10 Lassie Stakes Todays Feature Attraction. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Nov. 25. Tanforan hit over the 00,000 mark for the first time this season Thanksgiving afternoon when business went to 03,386. It was an ideal day for the sport and had not some of the starts been instantaneous, several more thousands of dollars might have passed through the mutuel clerks hands. An interesting sidelight of the Thanksgiving Day program was the ability of First Kiss, a three-year-old filly, to sprint six furlongs in 1:10. The miss was making her first appearance since Santa Anita and Hurst Philpot, her owner, predicted before the race that they would have to run in better than 1:11 to beat her. Evidently, even owner Philpot underestimated the ability of First Kiss. She should prove one of the outstanding short distance horses of California winter racing. The Tanforan program for Saturday was slow in filling and entries were not released until well along in the afternoon. The Lassie Stakes, a ,000 added affair for California two-year-old fillies, was featured, and eleven were entered. Green Jade, Mintouri and Lovely Bells were to race coupled as one entry, Blue Blazes and Pinkus as another, and Miss Loan and Sweet Jasmine as a third. Marguerite L., Vade Retra, Temperament and Nancy Rogge were slated to perform without any assistance from stablemates. BLUE BREEZE FAVORITE. It had been thought that Blue Breeze might be the favorite, but strength of numbers could make the Ross Cooper-trained triple entry the choice. Green Jade, Lovely Bells and Mintouri have all performed creditably in the past. Yager, considered a second-rate rider, has been named on Blue Breeze, while trainer Cooper has engaged Martin Fallon, Noel Richardson and Danny Brammer, all first-string jockeys, to do the piloting of his entry. Johnny Longdein, who has yet to prove to Tanforan audiences why he should be rated above "Shorty" Adams, will be on Vade Retra, and Adams will ride Temperament. Hooper, Elston and Burns, all old-timers, are the other jockeys named in the Lassie. Chief in support of the Lassie Stakes; will be a six furlongs dash known as the San Jose Handicap. Don Roberto, mammoth California-bred returns to action in this after having enjoyed a lengthy rest. It is probable that the Don is getting ready for a distance event. Others in the San Jose are the Howard entry of Indiantown and Ariel Cross p.s well as Party Spirit, Goldlure, Alviso, High Vote, and Bar Play. Goldlure, a Canadian-bred won the Kings Plate, most historic event staged annually on Canadian tracks, He races for H. C. Hatch.
