H0LLUSCHICK1E BY NOSE Comptons Energetic Stretch Efforts Result in Thrilling Victory, Well-Backed Prince Derek Disappoints in South Miami Purse Dnieper Beaten in Last Strides. MIAMI, Fla., April 5. Mrs. P. A. Shaws Holluschickie, under a rousing stretch ride from Charley Compton, drove to victory by a very short margin over Mose Goldblatts Dnieper in the South Miami Purse, feature of the sport at Tropical Park. It was one of the most thrilling finishes of the meeting, Holluschickie dropping his nose down right at the wire. Medway Stables Ghost Queen was third, half a length off the runner-up and a length and a half in front of Your Buddy. The well-backed Prince Derek beat one horse Oddesa Frank in the field of six. Prince Dereks effort was too bad to be true. Ghost Queen and Your Buddy fought it out in the final pace with Dnieper a close third. The latter challenged the leaders on the far turn, improved his position on the outside as they entered the stretch and showed in front at the eighth post. There he appeared a certain winner, but Compton went to work hard on Holluschickie in the run to the sixteenth post when he sensed that everything else in the race had virtually conceded the victory to Dnieper. DRIVES MOUNT. He drove his mount on determinedly, was head and head with Dnieper twenty yards from the wire and had Holluschickies nose ; in front right at the judges stand. The winner finished in 1:44. Ghost Queen held on fairly well after being headed. Your Buddy was not persevered with once he was headed. Oddesa Frank broke fast, but did no running after that. The day was warm and bright, the track fast and a fair-sized crowd was out for the sport. McKelvy and Morans Genuine Sport swept up fast in the final sixteenth to win the opening event by a length over Oaktree Stables Sun Asia. The latter got up in the final strides to take second place by a nose from Bill Gallaghers tiring Mr. Buddy. The latter set most of the pace. Happy Host was fourth, a head back. H. Simmons rode the winner, which completed the six furlongs in Continued on twenty-third page. HOLLUSCHICKIE BY NOSE Continued from first page. 1:13. Sun Asia broke in front but dropped back as Spanish Maid took a brief turn .at setting the pace. Then Mr. Buddy went to the front, gaining on Happy Host as they charged down the far lane. Mr. Buddy began to shorten stride on the turn for home, where Sun Asia drove up again, only to drop back in the stretch. Mr. Buddy held a half length lead to the sixteenth post, where Genuine Sport swept past to win drawing off. FLUSHING SCORES. Oaktree Stables Flushing came with a great burst of speed in the stretch to win the second event by two lengths, drawing away. Little Euclid Le Blanc had the Sweep All colts clear of Mrs. J. L. Bessemers "Veneer, with C. A. ONeil, Jr.s, Town League, short-priced favorite, a head back in third place. Cream Cheese, a warm paddock tip, could land no better than fourth after looking all over a winner at the head of the stretch. Epwar set the pace for nearly half a mile, with Pattie R. taking the lead as they went around the turn. Veneer moved into contention in the stretch. Pattie R., Cream Cheese and Veneer charged to the sixteenth post like a team, with Pattie R. the first to tire. Then Flushing came up on the outside to head them all and win drawing off in 1:13 flat. The luck of the successful Snow White Stable continued at this point as Phenomenal won the three-quarters third event by a length and a half over E. J. Ross Holiday Tea. Mrs. F. J. Vollmers Polly Fair, which made the pace to the stretch, finished third, a length off the runner-up and a nose in advance of Lady Hav. The winner went in 1:13, flat. Chuck Charlton, who leaves for Keeneland tomorrow, was astride the winner. Mrs.g J. H. P. Richards Broadway Juel, ridden by T. Murphy, was victorious in the mile and an eighth fourth event, romping home two lengths in front of R. C. Hannas Mobcap. Mrs. F. Swains Just Buck finished third, a length back of the runner-up. OBuddy was fourth in the field of eight. The winner made all of his own pace and was not seriously menaced at any stage of the journey, finishing out in 1:53 flat. "Buddy" Ensor, one-time riding idol of the country, received a great ovation from the crowd after he brought Jack LaBelles Sep-time home in the sixth. Septime was the best mount the 38-year-old veteran has had since making his comeback, and he made no mistakes with the daughter of The Porter, rating cleverly off the pace of Shining Sun to the eighth post, and then finishing stoutly to beat the Seven Acre Farm campaigner a length. The winner completed the distance in the good time of 1:42. Mrs. Kirby Ram Beys Brown Moth finished half a length back, in third place, and Mo was fourth. k The winner and runner-up fought it out all the way. Jockey Earl Porter packed his riding equipment and left for Bowie to report to the Brandon Stable.
