I BOWIE TURF NOTES 4 Trainer James Stewart arrived at Havre de Grace with the F. A. Burton horses and will inaugurate the eastern campaign at that track. The bill introduced in the Maryland legislature to install "totes" at Bowie, Havre de Grace and Laurel, was killed in the house. An old fashioned steeplechase will be run on Wednesday over a seven-mile course on the J. W. Y. Martin estate. Men and women will participate in the race. Maryland Jockey Club officials expressed themselves well pleased with the response of horsemen to the spring stakes at the Old Hilltop course. Hirsch Jacobs returned from New York, where he inspected the horses he has at Jamaica. He reported that I. Bieber purchased five South American-breds which will! be shipped to New York for fall racing. The horses J. P. Smith has here for Victor Emanuel will be shipped to Jamaica for racing there. Trainer J. J. Barker will ship the horses racing here for Marie Lynch to Jamaica. Painted Lady, owned by Mrs. M. H. Charles, was fired for ankle trouble. Stealing Home, Happy Marlene, Red Wings and Anneke, which were wintered at Annapolis, were shipped to Pimlico to be trained. Trainer Louis Feustel returned from a business trip to New York and took charge of the Mrs. E. Graham Lewis horses. George Conway will ship the Glen Riddle Stable horses from the farm at Berlin, Md., to Belmont Park next week to be prepared for Metropolitan racing. A new judges stand will be built for the fall meeting here. The placing judges will be located atop the roof. George Mayberry will ship the horses that -he has here for various patrons to Narra-gansett Park following the close of this meeting. Six horses owned by Mrs. Floyd West arrived j from New Orleans to be campaigned here. Stakes blanks for the Suffolk Downs meeting were distributed by John Turner during the afternoon. Dave Wood, of the Pimlico Jockey Club, left for New York to interest horsemen at Belmont Park, Aqueduct and Jamaica in the stakes for the spring meeting. Alfred Vanderbilt and his family are expected in Baltimore from California the latter part of April. Adhelmar and Mantagna were added to the schooling list by starter Milton. Jockey H. Dupuy arrived from Hot Springs and will ride here as a free lance. Jockey J. Sherry and the Bomar Stable parted company on amicable terms. Sherry will ride at Charles Town. Jockey Sammy Palumbo arrived from New York and will ride here, later transferring his saddle activities to the minor tracks in this section. Word was received here that Maj. Ral Parr is on his way east from California. Charles McLennan is due at Havre de Grace Saturday and will open the secretarys office at that point. Eddie Brennan, racing secretary on the Maryland hal"-mile circuit, announced that he was ready to accept stable applications. George Reed and Carl Corona arrived from Miami and will go to Jamaica to await the opening there.
