USEFUL WORKS AT KEENELAND Syracuse, Yale o Nine and Detector Preparing for Coming Stakes Fast Footing Prevails. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 5. Shandon Farms Syracuse, Tom Taggarts Yale o Nine and Riedinger Bros. Detector had useful preparations for their Kentucky Derby and Blue Grass Stakes engagements at Keeneland Park this morning. With a fast track prevailing for the first time in a week there were numerous trials, and the training period did not come to an end until nearly noontime. Yale o Nine gave his owner a fine display of speed by running six furlongs in 1:14. The colt enjoyed winter racing and needs little work to fit him for the gruelling ten furlongs of the Kentucky Derby. Syracuse was worked shortly before Yale o Nine, and he went a mile in 1:44. Breaking from the mile post, the son of Hadagal reeled off the quarter in :25, half mile in :49 and six furlongs in 1:16. Warren Yarberry came over from the Elmendorf, Farm to handle the Shandon Farm star. Detector was indulged in a mile trial, but he was not asked for speed and went the eight furlongs in 1:48. Detector is the only one of the trio eligible to the Blue Grass Stakes, to be renewed at Keeneland on the closing day of the meeting.
