MORGAN BUYS ROYAL FORD Houston Oil Man Buys Stallion, Sire of Heelfly, From Three Ds Stock Farm. HOUSTON, Texas, April 11 T. P. Morgan, Houston oil man and racing enthusiast, announced Tuesday that he has purchased the stallion Royal Ford from the Three Ds Stock Farin for an undisclosed sum. The thirteen-year-old gray son of Swynford and Royal Yoke will be bred to a number of the Morgan mares this season and is already established at the Morgan farm near Arlington. Royal Ford, sire of Heelfly, has had but limited opportunities at the Three Ds farm, but Morgan intends to give him every chance. As a yearling, he brought 3,000 in the Saratoga sales ring in 1927, with W. T. Waggoner being the successful buyer. He was bred in England and brought to this country in utero by the late Col. E. F. Simms, of Xalapa Farm. Royal Ford never fulfilled his promise as a racer, winning but one race, but he has given every indication of proving his worth as a stallion. His outstanding product is Heelfly, winner of numerous stakes and which once ran Seabiscuit to a dead heat. Other good horses sired by him include Gin Daisy, Royal Flight, Little Wichita, Royal Cloud, Irish Ford and Polite Ford. With Royal Ford, Morgan now has three stallions, the others being Liberty Limited, son of Sir Gallahad II.; and Hygro, a son of Epinard. Morgan announced that L. T. Whitehill, who now has several horses on the West Coast for him will be trainer of his extensive racing stable this season. Whitehill will take charge when the horses are shippedNto the Metropolitan area.
