OWNERS FROM RIVAL STATES Ohio and Pennsylvania Turfmen Will Strive for Purses at the Coming Meeting at Wheeling Downs. WHEELING, W. Va., May 17.— Ohio and Pennsylvania will be well represented both on the track and in the stands during the coming sixteen-day session of the sport of kings at Wheeling Downs. Both states annually furnish thousands of fans for the daily programs and this spring more owners from these two states have shipped here than ever before. More than a dozen stables have been vanned from farms in the Buckeye and Keystone states and another score of strings is to arrive in the next ten days. Yesterday it was an even break for the adjoining states and both sent speedy campaigners. JOHNSONS STRING. Francis Johnson, of Mount Victory, Ohio, reached the Downs Wednesday morning. He has Jadbalja, Iron Sands and Little Bubbles. A fourth member of his outfit will be Wooly Boy, to be sent here from Beulah Park, Saturday. Little Bubbles and Wooley Boy will race in the colors of William Hunter, also of Mount Victory, but will be trained by Johnson. N. S. Scava, of Punxatawny, Pa., moved in "next door" to Johnson, in the fourth row of barns to be completely filled. In the first half of the Scava contingent, which wintered at Indiana, Pa., were Rough Player and Star Mixer. Scava returned to his farm to bring Incendiary, Democracy and Mahogany to Wheeling. He expects to have his stable intact by Friday morning. Both Johnson and Scava said their charges have had the benefit of preliminary training on the farm and will be in running order when racing secretary William Shewbridge sounds the first call for entries on the morning of May 26. ■■ — * .
