First of Eight Stake Races to Be Decided — Close Six Days Before Running of Race. _ CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 17.— Nominations for the Inaugural Handicap, the first of eight stakes to be presented during the thirty-three day meeting at North Randall Park, close Saturday, and the lively interest horsemen are showing in it suggests it will have a splendid running on opening day, a week later. The Inaugural, which carries an added purse of ,500, is for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a sixteenth, and with many horses of quality to be here for the season, the race should prove a fitting headliner for the initial program of the new Cleveland Jockey Club. As an inducement to attract good horses to the local track, the Cleveland Jockey Club has outlined an ambitious stakes and purse program and that this policy is bearing fruit is seen in the number of fashionable stables that have made plans to take part in the North Randall meeting. Six of the stakes carry ,500 in added money, and the remaining two are twice as generously endowed. Also attractive to horsemen is the announcement that ,200 overnight handicaps will be presented each Wednesday of the meeting, and that daily purses will be ,000, 00 and 00. Nominations for each of the stakes close six days before its running, a policy which provides opportunities for improving horses to take part in the more richly endowed features. MORE FROM KENTUCKY. A number of horses already are on the grounds, but the general influx is not cx-■ pected until next week, when arrivals are expected to tax the stall capacity of this old track. Julius G. Reeder, racing secretary, is expecting many stables to ship in from Kentucky with others due from New Eng-I land, Columbus and other points. Besides the Inaugural Handicap, other stakes to be run during the North Randall season are: Memorial Day Handicap — Three-year-olds and upward, six furlongs, ,500 added. May 30. Cleveland Plain Dealer Handicap — Three-year-olds and upward, one and one-sixteenth miles, ,500 added, June 3. Cleveland Press Handicap — Three-year-olds and upward, one mile, ,500 added. June 10. Cleveland Handicap — Three-year-olds and upward, one and one-sixteenth miles, ,000 added, June 17. North Randall Juvenile Handicap — Two-year-olds, five-eighths mile, ,500 added. June 24. Cleveland News Handicap — Three-year-olds and upward, three-quarters mile, ,500 added, July 1. Independence Day Handicap — Three-year-I olds and upwaid, one and one-eighth miles, ,000 added, July 4.
