WENT TO POST— 5:42. AT POST— 2 minutes. Start good and slow. Won driving; third the same. GROUCHERS BOY, going strongly and in pursuit of the pacemaker, moved up strongly nearing the stretch, assumed a short lead in the final eighth, could not get clear and hung right at the end. HAPPY ROAD moved to the front at the start, was steadied until challenged, lost command entering the stretch, then came again while in very tight quarters on the inside and was on even terms with GROUCHERS BOY for a dead heat. HAPPY ROADS rider made a claim of foul against GROUCHERS BOY, which was not allowed. SEA FINN, steadied off the early pace, went abreast of the leaders midway of the final turn, then, tired in the closing drive. LAST SCAMP was messed about in the first three-quarters, then failed to threaten. ELSIE J. tired after three-quarters. PENCADER was never dangerous. LADETTE was outrun. CLEVER GIRL had a lot of speed to go into a forward position after breaking slowly, displaced SPRINGS HERE after going five-eighths and opened up a wide lead when shaken up lightly in the stretch run. WAR RUMOR was prominent from the start, rallied to punishment and made up ground slowly in the final three-sixteenths. ITSAMAID was well placed early and came with good courage when placed to a hard drive. BANK HOLIDAY could not make up any ground when the real test came. NEVER IDOL began slowly and never was a factor. PETEE LAD was held safe. LEW DUNLIN was done after going five-eighths. SPRINGS HERE flattened out when overhauled.
