MAIDEN DREAM REPEATS First Favorite of the Afternoon to Score at Fairmount Park. Flodur Holds Nose Advantage Over Nogalo at Finish of Fourth Race — 16.80 "Daily Double." COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 17— Maiden Dream, consistent plater which races for B. and Basil Neel, proved her usefulness when the six-year-old daughter of San-Utar and Many Thorns defeated Goshen by about three-quarters of a length in the running of the fifth race today at Fairmount Park. Goshen, in finishing second, had a scant nose advantage over Night Bandit at the end of the six furlongs dash, which was one of the better events presented in an afternoon of fine sport offered before a large crowd. Maiden Dream, which had the services of apprentice Otto Grohs, leading rider at the current meeting, accounted for her second straight victory in being returned a winner, and was the first favorite to score in the first five races. Flodur, which took winning honors in the running of the fourth race, was another lightly regarded entrant to score. Nogalo, which finished second, was installed favorite for the one mile event. Dame Grundy was third. FAVORITES BEATEN. Three-year-olds contested in the one mile opening event, which resulted in victory for Viernes Santo when he reached the end one-half length in advance of Vanscout. Tureen finished third and Shot Tower fourth. Princess Verte and Amos, which received the bulk of the public support, never were prominent in the early running and failed to reach the leaders when placed under pressure for the stretch run, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Overlooked in the wagering Viernes Santo with jockey R. Conner in the saddle, moved to the early leaders with a rush and on the outside in the final stages wore down Van-scout. The latter displaced Tureen for the lead in the last three-sixteenths to finish second, two lengths in advance of Tureen. Geo. B. McCameys white and green colors flashed in front when Ouray scored in the five and a half furlongs second race for his second consecutive victory of the current meeting. The Pelican, repeating his bearing out tactics of his previous efforts, finished second and Jockana third in a blanket finish. The camera, called upon to decide the j winner, showed Ouray a head in advance of the Pelican, which was a scant nose before Jockana. BIG "DAILY DOUBLE." "With Flutter Up and Manor Dell finishing first and second, respectively, and coupled in the mutuel field, long shot players were rewarded with an easy victory when Flutter Up scored in handy fashion to account for the third race. Four lengths behind the winner, Manor Dell outgamed Heidi, the favorite, for the place honors. The highest "Daily Double" pay-off of the current meeting occurred when those coupling Flutter Up with Ouray, winner of the second event, collected 10.80.
