1 SUFFOLK DOWNS NOTES t 4 s In future races the filly Vanishing Hope will be led to the starting post, with permission of the stewards. T. J. Healeys Tatterdemalion arrived Wednesday to fulfill his engagement in the Governors Handicap, Saturdays ,500 feature. He finished second to Sir Damion in the Dixie Handicap at Pimlico recently. Ben Chapman, owner and trainer, arrived with three head. P. J. Maguire, trainer for Mrs. J. Tracey, arrived Wednesday. M. Fish checked in with his stable, coming over from Narragansett. John Donovan, trainer for the William H. Gallagher stable, brought in eleven head Wednesday. j L. B. Mayer, moving picture magnate, who has one of the largest strings of thoroughbreds in the country, made an offer for the contract on apprentice Eddie Robart while visiting Suffolk Downs Tuesday. Jockey K. McCombs has been engaged to ride Woodsaw for Mrs. J. A. Nix in the Tomasello Memorial Handicap to be run May 30. Ruperto Donoso arrived here and will get into action Thursday. Jimmy East, his agent, came with six head of the E. J. Regan stable from Belmont Park. Jockey Lucas Dupps made his first appearance of the season at Suffolk Downs Wednesday. Riggs Mahony, a son of Mortimer M. Ma-hony, major domo of the mutuel department, is keeping fit by riding the pony of the Mary Hirsch stable each morning. Apprentice John Merle, a youngster who is under contract to Mrs. M. H. Charles, accepted his first mount of the meeting astride Prince Dean in the eighth race Wednesday. Another newcomer to the jockey family is R. Scott, an apprentice under contract to J. V. Stewart. He had two mounts Wednesday. Mrs. Cary Grayson, wife of the late Rear Admiral Grayson, will arrive here Friday. She owns a large string of horses now on the grounds which are trained by Matt Smart. Houghton P. Metcalf left Wednesday for his home in Virginia, but will return here next Wednesday for an extended visit. Jockey Maurice Berger was absolved of all blame by the stewards in connection with the foul by Friendly Paul in the eighth race Tuesday.
