1 : Maryland Notes HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 21. Trainer Claude Feltner has augmented his string by two head with the arrival of Red Tag and Silk from farm quarters. The entire Art-Dale Stable, numbering 21 head, will be shipped to Atlantic City at the conclusion of the present meeting. Accompanying the stable to the seashore track will be the clever apprentice, Tommy Spencer. Agent Jim CBrey has taken over the engagement book of the veteran lightweight rider, Mike Caffarella. OT3rey also looks after apprentice D. Boston, who can do 107 pounds. Former steeplechase rider Johnny Mee-han, now a successful conditioner, has transferred his stable of six to New York. George Palmer, who is a placing judge at this meeting and who will be in the starters stand for the Delaware Park meeting, which begins on May 29, announced today that members of his crew will school horses daily at the Wilmington course until the meeting gets under way. Sterling Young, president of the Jockeys Guild, said today that his organization has rented the main ball room of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York for the annual party of the guild, which is to be held in September. Committees have been named to handle various arrangements for the affair. Trainer Raymond B. Archers string was increased with the arrival of Grey-Del, who races in the colors of Mrs. A. de M. Riggs. H,.J. April, owner of Mescara, came down from Andover , "., to see the four-year-old Easy -Mon gelding perform in the Snow JHill Purse, sixth race on the program. Don Ewart, Ohio youth, who is galloping horses here for Woods Garth, expects, to start his riding career at Delaware Park. Ewart, who is 18, stands five feet two inches and tips the scale at 110. He began galloping two years ago at Garths Charlottesville, Va., farm. Howard W. Fieldings Jobar, who went wrong while competing in last years Kentucky Derby, has been picked up by trainer Don Yates and will probably return to the races durin gthe Delaware Park session. Mrs. L. M. Carvers Johns Star, who raced at the Pimlico meeting, has been retired and will enter stud duty. Johns Star will be bred to two mares, White Sea and Fortuna, at nearby Flamingo Farm. Agent Eddie Litzenberger was back on the scene after undergoing a minor operation. Litzenberger works for jockey Willie Saunders. Beverly "Toughie" Hacker has become affiliated with trainer Dan Chamblin and will do the riding for that horseman for the balance of the Maryland season and the Delaware Park meeting. Chamblin will send a division of his string to Charles Town, W. Va., at the conclusion of Havre de Grace. P. G. Simms, of Charles Town, W. Va., has purchased the three-year-old colt Blazing Away from Mrs. E. C. Salsbury. Trainer Mose Shapoff acted for Mrs. Sals-bury in the transaction. Simms plans to campaign the son of Chance Sun and Sand Lark at the Charles Town meeting, which will follow this session. Jockey Martin Bletzacker is out of the hospital after a recent accident and expects to resume riding shortly. Sidney Brown, popular assistant to Charles J. McLennan, was passing out cigars today, the occasion being the birth of a baby girl to his adopted daughter, Mrs. Mial. Mother and child are reported doing well in a Lawton, Okla., hospital. Jockey R. L. Barber checked in and took out a license to ride a this meeting. He is with trainer Duke McCue, who has his charges stabled at Delaware Park. Christiana Stables Joshua, who pulled up decidedly lame after winning the other afternoon, will be out of action for some time, according to trainer J. A. Healey. William Nertney, who was one of the leading "bug" riders on the Maryland circuit several years ago, will attempt a saddle comeback during the coming Charles Town, W. Va., meeting. Nertney, since being discharged from the Army after two and one-half years of service, has been employed by the Cedar Farm and is down to 112 pounds, which was his normal riding weight. Jockey Ray Scott packed his tack and departed for the Detroit Fair Grounds, where he will ride the horses owned by C. S. Popovitz and trained by D. Seckicky. The large stable which races for H. Guy Bedwell will be transferred to New England at the conclusion of the Maryland season. Jockey Johnny Gilbert departed for California and the opening of the Hollywood Park meeting. Johnny Covalli, who hSj?iot been riding much at this -mtetinand -S3andtandd a sprained ankle yesterday, TvHen a ponton which he was riding, fell anrT rolled over on him. Covalli went to Harford Memorial Hospital for examination, but was able to be out today when it was found no bones had been broken. Calumet Farms Citation, winner of his only two starts, is being pointed for the ,500 Eastern Shore Handicap, closing-day attraction here. Another new apprentice rider joined the local riding colony in Kenneth Williams, a Baltimore, Md., youngster, who is under contract to Walter P. Chrysler. Williams has yet to score his maiden victory. Donald Altman is looking after Williams engagements. Jockey R. J. Martin and apprentice T. Spencer will desert Maryland in time to accept mounts on the opening-day card at Atlantic City. Agent Goldie Mitchell will look after both riders. Among the trainers scheduled to ship out this week-end for Atlantic City are Jimmy McGee, P. Da Lee Watts, Mose Shapoff and W. A. Croll, Jr. Jockey Albert Snider, leading rider at the meeting, will handle Walter Jeffords Trymenow in Saturdays Havre de Grace Handicap.
