Sandslinger Sandslinger Returns Returns to to Winning Winning Form; Form; Inroc Inroc Scores Scores Easy Easy Victory Victory in in Roseben Roseben Passes Bull Play In Final Sixteenth Second Success in as Many Days for Shady Brook Farm In Feature Races at Cicero HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 21. Sandslinger, a representative of Theodore E. Muellers Shady Brook Farm, drove to an impressive and -game victory here today in the Blue Delight Handicap. The victor, a five-year-old son of Flint Shot and Swift Breeze, responded to a strong ride by Albert Bodiou through the stretch and was up in the last sixteenth of the six furlongs to earn a half-length decision from Walter W. Jones favored Bull Play. Six lengths back of the lapped leaders, Anthony Fer-raras Wow closed determinedly enough to garner the minor end of the purse from the four other starters. Mrs. Clyde Troutts topweighted Take Wing ran fourth, but never was a serious factor in the dash. Shouldering 110 pounds, Sandslinger ran the three-quarters through the mud in 1:15, good time over the "off" course, and chalked up his first success of the 1947 campaign. Sandslinger, second choice to Bull Play, returned his backers 0.40. For the second straight day, the Shady Brook silks were successful in the feature, Gotham having accounted for yesterdays headliner, the Dolly Val Purse. Favorite Takes Over Quickly Starter Reuben White had the Blue Delight field away in good order and Bull Play assumed a clear advantage before going a quarter mile. Handy Lad offered the Jones horse stiff opposition during the first half mile, while Sandslinger moved along steadily within striking distance of the favorite. Achance also figured prominently in the running during the first three-eighths, but dropped back before reaching the stretch turn. Entering the home lane, Bull Play held a two-length lead over Sandslinger, who had put Handy Lad away and was beginning his victorious bid. Responding readily to Bodious hustling tactics, the Shady Brook sprinter closed gamely and, catching Bull Play near the sixteenth pole, raced the latter into defeat during the run to the wire. Wow closed willingly to take the show award, while Take Wing was along for fourth and Handy Lad wound up a weary fifth. Clear and cool weather prevailed in the Chicago area today and a crowd of 11,268 witnessed the mid-week sport, which was decided over a very muddy racing strip. Heavy rains fell last night and thoroughbreds capable of negotiating the stiff footing had all the best of it, favorites faring none too well. D. C. Wilhelms consistent Bubbling Easy, a four-year-old daughter of Ted Easy and Bubbling Sixty, proved best of the five fillies and mares meeting in the six-furlong Holly Leaves Purse. Given a clever ride by Tommy Bates, who was completing a saddle double, Bubbling Easy drove to the finish a neck before Mrs. Caterina Va- Continued on Page Twenty-Two Sandslinger Along in Time To Down Favored Bull Play Continued from Page One lentis Mrs. Valenti, second by two lengths over Dixianas favored Chapel Bells. Bubbling Easy went into command at the start and, after she had made the pace to the stretch under pressure from Mrs. Valenti, gamely withstood a long drive to hold the latter safe. Mrs. Valenti turned in a sharp effort to attain the place award, and Chapel Bells came from well back to earn the short end of the purse. May Fly was an even-going fourth, while Woolford Farms well-regarded Enchanting ran last after she had raced prominently to the stretch. The Wilhelm miss carried top weight of 119 pounds under the allowance conditions of the Holly Leaves, and completed her task in 1:15. Second choice to Chapel Bells in the "tote," Bubbling Easy paid slightly better than 2 to 1 straight.
