-i . Black Gang and The Doge Match Speed in Havre de Grace Event Good Blood Also Among Field of Nine Entered In Liberty Grove Purse HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 21. Rac-ng secretary Charles McLennan has carded l splendid double-feature program for this Eiarf ord County course tomorrow. The twin features are the six-furlong Liberty Grove Purse, which includes several of the best sprinters on the grounds, and the one mile ind a sixteenth Cross Roads Purse, which Jrew 13 highly capable routers. Both events larry a ,000 purse. With the track having absorbed an un-ually heavy amount of water, due to overnight rains, and additional showers forecast in this area today, prospects for a fast track for tomorrows program were decidedly slim. Regardless of track conditions, both of tomorrows features hold promise of providing keenly contested races. This is particularly true of the Liberty Grove Purse, which drew an overnight field of nine, including such celebrated sprinters as Pentagon Stables The Doge, Cedar Farms Black Gang and Calumet Farms Good Blood. In addition to this trio of well-established speedsters, the field comprises Bobanet Stables Ariel Song, E. A. Grimms Relief Flag, Ella K. Brysons Neddiecan, J. H. Elliotts Falsely, Walker Gullatts Seaward Bound and Mrs. George Fox Bungalese. Expected to vie for favoritism in the rather wide-open race are the consistent Black Gang and The Doge, sprint rivals who have regaled local fans with a number of sterling contests. Black Gang, trained by the capable Charles Shaw, has never been better than at the present and in his last race came within a fifth of a second of equaling the track record for six furlongs in registering a five-length victory over strong opponents. Ariel Song Also Well Regarded A stake winner during the 1946 season, The Doge has made only one appearance under silks so far this year. He finished fourth in a six-furlong allowance race during the first week here, but indicated he has retained all of his fine early speed. The shifty Pentagon Stable competitor is expected to improve immeasurably over that hard race. Ariel Song, a clever filly, won her last race rather handily, indicating that trainer "Specs" Dunne has the swift chestnut daughter of Ariel Clever Song in mid-season form. Under the conditions of the race, Ariel Song will enjoy an advantage in the weights over Black Gang and The Doge and may give those two formidable male rivals a spirited battle. The Liberty Grove will signal the return to competition of Good Blood, a stakes-winning mare in the Calumet silks during the 1946 season. Trainer Jimmy Jones has the five-year-old daughter of Bull Lea Diagnosis in top form, judging by her morning trials. Seaward Bound is another member of the field who will be launching his 1947 campaign, the seven-year-old son of Hard Tack having been out of action for more than a year. Shamrock Stables Darby Dieppe, who has had somewhat of a checkered career since his return to competition this spring, may enjoy favoritism in the Cross Roads Purse, although the gray son of Foray II. La Croma, will have to perform in his best style to thwart such sturdy rivals as Mrs. K. A. OMalleys Miss War, Mrs. A. E. Greers Turnabout and Miss Ruth Howies Salvo. The latter may prove a particularly formidable contender, trainer Jim East having brought .the good handicap performer to top condition in preparation for impending stakes at Atlantic City. Comprising the balance of the Cross Roads field are: E. L. Rankins Blue-sweep, Lou Hurwitz Valdina Decoy, S. V. dUvas Bright Argosy, W. E. Ferrells Drum Major, H. P. Metcalf s Rocket Bomb, Bohemia Stables Meadow Maid, Mrs. George Foxs Fair Ann, A. J. Lacostes Ned Canron and Taylor Leatherburys Split the Wind.
