Equibit Gains Narrow Score Over Theodore Gets Up for Head Accounting In Breeders Stakes at Havre HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 21. Reaffirming his status as one of the best Maryland-foaled juveniles to perform this spring, Ella K. Brysons speedy bay colt, Equibit, registered his second successive stake victory here today when he drove to a narrow victory in the featured Havre de Grace Breeders Stakes. Equibit came from off the pace under Al Sniders capable handling to defeat Christiana Stables bay gelding, Theodore, a head after the two had staged a spirited duel through the final eighth of a mile. Mrs. E. duPont Weirs Eireann was a soundly beaten third, finishing four lengths back of Theodore, while holding a nose advantage over Mrs. Robert Heighes Win-terberry, who was fourth. S. W. Labrot, Jr.s, Tandis, brought up the rear after setting the pace around the turn. Todays race was the second of a series of events for Maryland-foaled juveniles, which will be run at Marylands four major tracks to stimulate home breeding, and was of particular interest to Maryland breeders in the enthusiastic throng of approximately 11,000 fans who witnessed the program in balmy, warm, and humid weather. Equibit was a pronounced favorite, paying . Shouldering topweight of 125 pounds under the conditions of the stake, Equibit completed the four and one-half furlongs over the good track in :53, and earned ,583.34 as the lions share of the ,000 added purse. Equibit, under Sniders good handling, was a forward factor from the start. The colt saved ground to force Tandis early pace around the turn, and Snider refused to become flustered when Theodore, on the outside, rushed to wrest the lead at the furlong pole. Responding readily to Sniders rousing through the final eighth, Equibit raced stride for stride wtih the pacemaker through the stretch and gradually drew out in the final 70 yards to record his popular victory. Remaining undefeated while assuring jockey Snider a consecutive riding double, Calumet Farms formidable two-year-old colt, Citation, registered his third straight victory at the expense of five stanch rivals in the five-furlong Perry Point Purse, which followed the Breeders Stakes and was the secondary feature. Citations margin of victory was a length and three-quarters, the bay son of Bull Lea Hydroplane closing swiftly through the last sixteenth of a mile to trounce Christiana Stables Little Tony, who had set the pace from the outset. William He-lis Grand Entry finished third, beaten an additional eight lengths. Citation was a pronounced choice, paying .80, while completing the five panels in an impressive :59Vs.
