Aqueduct Fixtures Draw Total of 617 Entries for Nine Features On Flat Include Assault, Stymie and But Why Not AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., May 21. There will be no change, either in the quality or the quantity, of what promises to be New Yorks greatest season of stake races when the thoroughbreds move to Aqueduct at the close of Belmont. That was ascertained when the nominations for the nine flat stakes of the Queens County Jockey Club meeting, which opens Monday, June 2, were made public. Almost tevery stake shows an increase in nominations, with the total for the nine reaching 617 for 1947, as opposed to 579 for 1946. Tremendous fields have been named for the two-year-old events, 126 for the Tre-mont as against the ninety-two named for it a year ago; 120 for the Great American, for which ninety-four were named a year ago, and ninety-seven for the Astoria for fillies, this a drop of two. Among the nominations for the stakes for older horses are included the best in training. Assault, Stymie, Phalanx, Liberty Road, Brown Mogul, Coincidence, Rico Monte, Gallorette, Miss Grillo, Blue Border, Cosmic Bomb, I Will, Uncle Remus, Better Value, But Why Not, Jet Jilot, Sec-nav, Double Jay, Colonel OF, Carolyn A., Bridal Flower, First Flight and Quaran-taine are a few of the ones named for the Brooklyn, Owyer, Shevlin, Carter, Gazelle and Queens County. In addition to the flat stakes, Aqueduct will offer a steeplechase and hurdle affair every day, with the regular number of stakes in these through the field events. June 7 Astoria Stakes, 0,000, two-year-olds, fillies, five and a half furlongs; Carter Handicap, 5,000, three-year-olds and upward, seven furlongs. June 11 Tremont Stakes, 0,000, two-year-olds, colts and geldings, five andj a half furlongs. June 14 Dwyer Stakes, 0,000, three-year-olds, one and a quarter miles. June 18 Great American Stakes, 0,000, two-year-olds, six furlongs. June 19 Gazelle Stakes, 5,000, three-year-olds, fillies, one and a sixteenth miles.
