New Law Boosts Detroit Track Rental to 50,000 DETROIT, Mich., May 21. The Michigan state- legislature today passed the Gloon Bill which authorizes the Board of Agriculture to lease the Detroit Fair Grounds race property for an annual rental fee of 50,000. The bill was signed by Gov. Kem Sigler over the protests of the Detroit Racing Association. The racing association maintained that its original 15-year lease for a 2,000 annual rental expiring in 1948 is still valid despite a ruling of the State Supreme Court last year which declared it void on technicalities. Although Sigler said today, "Fay 50,000 or face eviction," indications are that the state officials with a hard-pressed treasury do not intend to interfere with the 73-day racing meet scheduled to open this Saturday and lose an estimated ,500,000 in. revenue. Litigation to settle the dispute between the Detroit Racing Association and the state is in prospect. President Edward P. Strong and board chairman Clarence E. Lehr had no comment to make and are apparently awaiting the next move of the attorney general.
