Ky., May 3. — The Kentucky Derby colts training activities drew a large gallery of work-watchers this morning and they saw Halt and Conn McCreary in a little unscheduled calisthenics. Trainer Woody Stephens sent the Woodvale Farms Blue Grass Stakes winner a handy mile in 1:42. Near the end of the trial, McCreary lost an iron and in pulling up he fell from the Haltal colt. The jockey was uninjured and Stephens, who timed the work from his pony, caught up Halt almost immediately. The track was fast and Halts fractions were :24%, :37, :49, 1:14 and 1:28. He wore his customary blinkers and was accompanied the final half of the move by his stablemate, Ring K. John A. Kinards handsome Johns Joy was out for a handy mile and a furlong trial, with jockey Scurlock in the saddle. He moved along well within himself in :24%, :50, 1:16, 1:42 and 1:55. Wine List was another who underwent a final distance tightener. The Greentree colt had jockey Ted Atkinson up and was only breezing all the way, a mile and a furlong in 1:591/5. His fractions were :25%; :37; :51; 1:18%, and the mile in 1:45%. Both this son of Questionnaire and the "Arkansas Traveler" appeared to come out of their long drills in good fettle. The same was true of Old Rockport who went a mile in 1:49 hard held from the outset to the prep. Jacks Town in Speed Trial The only really fast move by a Derby colt during the morning hours was Lextowns half in :46%, with Jack Richard up. Jacks Town, with whom he is some times confused by casual racegoers, was withdrawn from this afternoons Derby Trial, but his connections said that he will be a starter in the Derby itself on Saturday. Calumets colts, De Luxe and Ponder, only galloped to be supple for their engagement in the Derby Trial this afternoon. Duplicator and Palestinian, also were on the track for leisurely gallops. Trainer John Goode saw Ky. Colonel behave in a way which pleased him yesterday afternoon and the Balladier colt still may be a runner in Saturdays 00,000 classic. It seems the colt was out picking grass when the loud speaker came on and the raucous blast put the three-year-old on his toes.
