Ryan Appointed Operations Manager at Garden State CAMDEN, N. J., May 3.— Fred H. Ryan, who has been associated with the Garden State Racing Association as general manager of the Tanforan track at San Bruno, Calif., which the local association controls, has been named manager of operations for the coming meeting at Garden State Park. Ryan will take over his duties immediately and will serve through the spring meeting which opens on May 3 and runs through Memorial Day. Prior to joining the racing association, Ryan served as secretary of the New Jersey Racing Commission from the time of its inception. Resigning that post last year when Garden State took over control of Tanforan, Ryan went to California to direct the rebuilding of that plant and the successful operation of its meeting last fall. His new duties will make him the special representative of Walter H. Donovan, executive vice-president of Garden State Park, in the operation of the New Jersey oval during the initial 1949 meeting.
