Run Iroquois Memorial Week From Saturday To Feature Seven-Race Card at Nashvilles Percy Warner Park NASHVILLE, Term., May 3.— With all preliminary preparations completed for the traditional running of the Iroquois Memorial Steeplechase on May 14, Mason Houghland, president of the Volunteer State Horsemens Association of Tennessee, is now devoting his attention to the supporting races which will round out the one-day program. The meeting will be conducted at beautiful Percy Warner Park in this city. Herbert A. Kent, president of P. Lorillard Co., will present a perpetual trophy and ,500 of the total purse, in honor of Pierre Lorillard, who owned the great Iroquois at the time he won the English Derby. The Challenge Cup, known as the P. Lorillard Trophy, is a handsome silver and gold masterpiece created by an expert English silversmith in 1813. Seven races comprise the program for the eventful day beginning with a pony race over one-quarter mile. The Frost Hunter Steeplechase, a two-mile test over 10 jumps will attract considerable attention among the hunt crowd. Another pony race is slated as the third. The Hillsboro Hounds Steeplechase will be decided at one and one-half mile over nine jumps. The Trux-ton Purse and Diana Plate will be decided over one mile, the latter on the turf. Following the running of the first six races on the program the days activities will be climaxed by the Iroquois Memorial Steeplechase which is approximately three miles over the turf with 18 jumps. The Iroquois has attracted as high as 40,000 devotees in recent years and because of the stellar program offered this year it is expected that a new attendance figure will be set. Many of the best racers and gentlemen riders in the country will be in competition and the occasion is expected to go down as a memorable one.
