Horse Invaded State in 1750 CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 6. — Kentucky tradition states that the first horses to come into the state were brought by Thomas Walker, in 1750. Walker crossed the mountains from the East. Daniel Boones hunters brought their packhorses into the Blue Grass region to raise crops other than horses. Perhaps the most important is tobacco.
