Sunstorm Makes Good In Roguish Eye Purse Skoronski Gives Victor Hustling Ride to Register at Sportsmans SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 6. — Williard T. Beezleys Sunstorm, a veteran who had knocked hard at the door in a pair of previous races over this course, finally made the grade when he drove to an impressive victory in the Roguish Eye Purse here this afternoon. With Tony Skoronski, leading rider of the meeting, hustling hard in the late stages, the nine-year-old gelding was a going-away winner over T. Westropes Royalong, while E. Reas Sangone was third. Sunstorm raced the seven furlongs in 1:315 and was second choice in an open-betting race. Favorite was Albulil, a gelding who had shown excellent speed and gameness to finish second against 2tter opposition in his previous race. However, today he quit cold through the stretch after alternating in setting the pace for part of the distance. Riding star of the day was the apprentice, Darl Norman, who accounted for both ends of the Daily Double and Quizzle in the fifth race. Although the mercury did not reach the high point of the previous day, the atmospher conditions were considerably more humid and the great majority of the 8,847 patrons were anything but comfortable. Sunstorm, who has changed hands many times during his long racing career, was claimed by his Omaha, Neb., owner during the recent Hot Springs meeting for ,500. Since then he has not finished less than third and on the strength of his good effort today, it seems that Beezley has a bargain. Skoronski played a major role in Sun-storms victory, for he wisely avoided the fast early pace in the warm weather, and when the leaders were well spent as they swung into the stretch the last time, Sunstorm had plenty left. Albulil, Sala Lou and Newsworthy raced head and head down the backstretch after the start and continued on what seemed break-neck speed as they passed the grandstand the first time around. Mac-Andrew attempted to draw clear during the second time around and the gelding responded nicely. But as they neared the far turn he dropped back suddenly and tired so badly that at the finish he had one horse beaten. Sunstorm, in the meantime, had been carefully rated by Skoronski in the middle pack and he avoided all interference. When given the word, he was sent up with a powerful rush, collared Royalong, who had taken over when Albulil quit, and then drew away.
