Offer Fashion and Swift At Belmont Park Today Bed o Roses Goes in Juvenile Stake; Curandero in Latter BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 6. — Two stakes adorn the first Saturday program at beautiful Belmont tomorrow, the 0,000 Fashion, for juvenile fillies at four and a half furlongs on the Widener straightaway, and -the 5,000 Swift, for three-year-olds at seven furlongs on the main track. These will be the fourth and sixth events. Eight have been named for the Fashion, headed by Chrissways Stables Luring, a double winner, who carries 119 pounds. Walter M. Jeffords Tunic, Robert M. Woods High Frequency, Twin Oaks Stables Scotch Wine and A. G. Vanderbilts Bed o Roses, who have each won one race, carry 114 each. The field is completed by three maidens at 110 apiece — Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Our Patrice, C. V. Whitneys Mackle and George D. Widener "s Rare Perfume. Bed o Roses won her last start at Jamaica with such ridiculous ease that the daughter of Rosemont — Good Thing will probably be made the choice here with Eric Guerin in the saddle. Rare Perfume, who finished second to Baby Comet in the Rosedale Stakes last out, may be the chief contention. Bed o Roses and Mackle finished far back in that race, but the first-named was all but left at the post. The "dark lady" of the Fashion may be Scotch Wine, who beat Our Patrice in her only start, scoring by only a neck, but with considerable authority. There is a widespread theory that the Double Scotch filly is a genuine stakes prospect. Tunic won impressively in her only start at Havre de Grace and comes from a stable that almost always includes at least one first-class filly. This one is a daughter of Roman — Shipshape, by Man o War, which is royal breeding. Of the others, Luring has won more races than her rivals, but was beaten while carrying a 2,500 claiming tag, while High Frequency followed several good races with a miserable effort a few days ago. The Swift, which was run after the Derby last year and went to Coaltown, has attracted a field of 10 who, for a variety of reasons, were not sent to Churchill Downs. All carry 126 pounds, with the chief contention expected to come from King Ranchs Cuarandero, Mrs. F. Ambrose Clarks Algasir, Daniel Hess Blue Lancer, John S. Phipps Mirabeau, who will be coupled with Algasir, and Gustave Rings Galloping Gus. The chief interest in the Swift lies in the performance of Algasir and Curandero. Algasir showed himself to be intrinsically an extremely fast horse last year, setting a record for four and a half furlongs on the Widener course in his debut and going on to win the Flash Stakes before being sold at Saratoga and taking the Babylon and Cowdin after the sale. The son of Sir Gallahad III. then lost his form completely, but showed in his recent seasonal debut that he has regained his speed and may rate consideration in the later classics. Curandero s chief recommendation is that he seems to be the best three-year-old in Max Hirschs care and that astute conditioner almost always has one sophomore that is considerably better than an empty stall.
