Williams; bred by Wheatley Stable. WENT TO POST— 1:15. OFF AT 1:18 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. INTREPID made the pace in hand, saved ground throughout and, under strong handling through the stretch run, held COPACABANA safe. The latter was shuffled back on the inside soon after the start, came to the outside rounding the stretch turn and made a bold bid in the late stages. JHANSI broke in a tangle and was steadied along to the stretch turn, where he was brought between horses when set down for the drive and finished full of run. NAVY AWARD was never far back, raced on the outside much of the way and lacked a closing rally. APPLAUSE was never a serious threat. CUSTODY showed an even effort. HARD FACTS broke alertly, forced the pace in hand from the outside, displaced BLUNT REMARK under extreme pressure nearing the last eighth and held his advantage under a sustained drive. BLUNT REMARK wrested command from the inside in the run down the backstretch, drew out rounding the turn, but faltered under punishment when challenged in the drive. HALS PAL, taken under snug restraint soon after the break, raced wide much of the way and closed a big gap when rallying in the late stages. MR. McGREGOR, slow to settle into his best stride, found racing room between horses when set down for the drive and made up ground fast. LARKMEAD ANDY was well placed from the beginning, saved ground throughout, but lacked a closing rally. BEST EFFORT had no mishap in an even effort. ATTIC was through early. B00TAL0NG could not keep up. ENON began to make up ground after clearing the second hurdle, wrested command without urging soon after clearing the fourth hurdle and drew into a long lead to win as if much the best. APRIL DIP, slow to settle into his best stride, came from far back after clearing the sixth hurdle and, while not able to menace the top one, appeared best of the others. GATES MILLS had good early speed and gave way steadily after the fourth hurdle. STRATEGY raced with the pace to the eighth hurdle, then tired badly. TOUGH was eliminated early. IRISH KNIGHT followed in close attendance to the early pace, raced on the outside throughout, was put to mild urging to dispose of THIRD ACE nearing the last quarter and, under increased pressure, drew into a long lead in the early stretch to hold his advantage while being ridden out. HOBCAW BARONY was well placed from the start, saved ground much of the way, but failed to rally when set down for the drive. THE BLUES had no mishap in an even effort. ESCADOR raced a trifle wide in the run down the backstretch and lacked a closing rally. THIRD ACE had good speed for three-quarters and tired badly. BLACK FOX II. showed a dull effort. RIPPEY, steadied along while being outrun in the first quarter, was soundly shaken up after three-eighths and wore down PIPETTE inside the last quarter, then gradually drew out under continued pressure. The latter wrested command from between horses after a quarter while under strong handling, but gave way readily to the top one and held on fairly well. UP BEAT broke alertly, commenced drifting to the inside after a quarter and, while closing gamely in the drive, was not good enough. BUZFUZ broke very sluggishly and, under extreme pressure, closed with a belated rush in the late stages. ROYAL GOVERNOR had early speed and swerved out under punishment in the last quarter. The latter, allowed to drop far back in the early stages, found racing room on the inside when roused for the drive and made a belated bid. NASOPHAR forced the pace in hand from the inside, was under extreme pressure in the last quarter and, while tiring, commenced drifting out and finished on even terms with BOOMDEAY. The latter broke very slowly, was steadied to the last quarter and came to the outside to finish with a belated rush. TASSEL raced evenly. CHEESECLOTH was never a threat. GAY MOOD was outrun.
