Commission Allots Each Florida Track 40 Days Schedule to Stand Unless State Legislature Decrees Otherwise MIAMI, Fla., May 10.— Unless the Florida Legislature decrees otherwise, the 1949-50 racing season in the Miami area will be the same as last winter. The state racing commission, at a meeting yesterday, authorized a schedule which again would see Tropical Park opening the season, followed by Hialeah Park and Gulfstream Park. None of the tracks was represented at the boards meeting. The commission allotted the dates, identical with last season, as follows: Tropical Park — December 1 to January 16. Hialeah Park — January 17 to March 3. Gulfstream Park — March 4 to April 19. Each track would operate one uninterrupted meeting of 40 days. A bill pending in the legislature would change this set-up. It would leave Hialeah with the choice mid-season dates, but would allow the track distributing the second largest amount of revenue to the state to stage a split meeting of 20 days immediately before and 20 days after the Hialeah session. On last seasons revenue, Gulfstream Park could claim those dates, thus compelling Tropical Park to open the season December 1 with a 21 -day meeting, and close it with a meeting of similar duration from March 28 to April 19.
