Silent Partner Is Pride Of Arizona Establishment Gill Cattle Co. Horse Regarded As Being Faster Than Barbara B. RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, May 10. — Lyo Lee, trainer for the Gill Cattle Co. stable, believes that he has one of the fastest thoroughbreds in the country over a short distance of ground. The pride of the Arizona establishment is Silent Partner. The bald-faced chestnut was shipped here recently from Lincoln Downs where he ran his first three races over a recognized course, winning his last two times out and setting a new track record of :58y5 for five furlongs the closing day, while being eased up the final yards. Silent Partner is a five-year-old son of Montoso and Coville, by Coventry, and according to the words of Lee, he is a "freak," as none of their other progeny of Montoso are able to show any signs of being worthwhile runners. Silent Partner has remained just that, being the lesser known companion of the champion quarter horse, Barbara B. She is also owned by the Gill Cattle Co., and gained renown by defeating the exceptionally swift thoroughbred Fair Truckle in a match race at Golden Gate Fields. Jockey Anthony Licata, who rode Barbara B. in this speed test at a quarter of a mile, states that Silent Partner is even faster than Barbara B. He bases his statement upon his experience of riding Silent Partner in his three recognized starts, and most of his reported 41 match events and races at quarter horse tracks, in which he was reputed to have been beaten only three times.
