Vulcans Forge Works Well for Metropolitan Drills Seven Furlongs in 1 :262/s; Our Tops, Five-Eighths in :58V£ BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y.f May 10. — I. J. Collins Vulcans Forge, who is expected to head Saturdays fifty-sixth edition of the 5,000 Metropolitan Mile, was given a solid prep for that engagement this morning. Working alone and equipped with blinkers, the Santa Anita Handicap winner stepped seven furlongs in 1:26%, handily. The fractions were :36, :48% and 1:13% on a sloppy track. Vulcans Forge galloped an additional eighth in :15%. Several candidates for tomorrows Acorn Stakes were given their final trials this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Green Baize and Adile went a half in :48% and :48%, respectively. Greentree Stables Boomdeay and Night Game breezed the same distance in :53. Foxcatcher Farms Gaf fery went a handy half in :51%. C. V. Whitneys Jazz Baby went a handy three furlongs in :36%. The same stables Nasophar breezed in :37%. Glenelg Stables Wilhemine also breezed three-eighths, in :37. The fastest trial of the morning was turned in by Circle M Farms two-year-old colt Our Tops, a candidate for next Wednesdays Juvenile Stakes. The son of Bimelech — Bazaar was hustled down the Widener course in :58% under a brisk hand ride, with fractions of :33% and :45. The work was equivalent to a race, and better than any except the Fashion Stakes, thus far at this meeting.
