Dixiana String, NumberingTwenty-One Head, Arrives at Detroit Fair Grounds Shy Guy, Star Reward and 4 Galloway Stars of Stable Trained by Jack Hodgins FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 10. — One of the nations outstanding stables unloaded at the Fair Grounds yesterday, when the 21 thoroughbreds that are to race at the local course for Charles T. Fishers Dixiana arrived from Churchill Downs. Heading the Detroit-owned establishment were the crack homebred colts, Shy Guy and Star Reward, which pair is to be liberally engaged in the numerous stakes that are scheduled for the 80-day Michigan Racing Association meeting beginning here on Friday. While Shy Guy, fleet son of Challedon and Tootsiecake, is regarded as the top performer in the Dixiana unit, trainer Jack C. Hodgins also brought in the stakes-winning four-year-old colt, Star Reward; the crack turf course racer, Galloway, and a well-balanced string of two- and three -year-old Dixiana-bred horses. Shy Guy made a brilliant record at Keeneland and Churchill Downs this spring, capturing the Ben Ali Handicap at the Lexington track and also achieving a well-deserved victory in the Diamond Jubilee running of the Clark Handicap at Louisville. Shy Guy shouldered top weight in both the stakes and, before his transfer to Kentucky from Florida, finished second to Calumet Farms mighty Coaltown in the Widener, bowing to the quick son of Bull Lea by two lengths at the end of the one mile and one-quarter, which was run in 2:02. According to Hodgins present plans, Shy Guy will be under silks here next Saturday in the 5,000 Border City Handicap, which will bring together a speedy field of middle-i distance performers at one mile and one-sixteenth. Star Reward also has been nominated for the half-holiday fixture, giving the Dixiana outfit an unusually strong hand for the first important route stake on the Fair Grounds agenda. Star Reward hasnt been under colors since last fall when he ran third behind Shy Guy in the ICeeneland Special but, previous to that engagement, he accounted for the Shreveport, New Orleans Handicap, the Clark, and the Sheridan Handicap at Washington Park. In the latter offering, which was contested at one mile, Dixianas Reaping Reward colt beat such clever rivals as Calumets Fervent, Augustus and Nahms Eternal Reward, and Frederick W. Hoopers South American -bred Colosal. Well fortified in all divisions, Dixiana may have a powerful contender for the 0,000 Wolverine and the St. Clair Handicaps, turf course events, in Galloway, who literally ran away from a well-balanced field of rivals over the grass at Washington Park last August 5. Galloway established a new American record of 1:49% for one mile and one furlong on the Homewood turf while carrying 122 pounds. Other members of the Dixiana stable on hand for the Fair Grounds sport are Sky Power, Beau Fortune, Dainty Maid, Prudent Don, Fleeting Star, Arcanum, Timeltel, Fleet Factor, Dream Hand, Concordant, Thrifty, and six unnamed juveniles. Hodgins stated here today that he is negotiating for the services of a first class reinsman and that he will have an an- i nouncemeni as tn his jockey selection be- I fore the Fair Grounds meeting gets under I way Friday.
