Eight Slated to Compete In Spring Maiden Chase McKinney Saddles Couer and Hot In Pimlicos Principal Offering PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 10. — The ,000 Spring Maiden Steeplechase, first in a series of three races presented each season at Pimlico, Belmont, and Delaware Park, will have its third running as the fifth and featured event here tomorrow afternoon. Conditions of the race call for four-year-olds and upward, non-winners at the time of closing, which was March 10, 1949. The overnight field follows: Harry La-Montagnes Larky Day, 158; Rokeby Stables Polinchinela n., 150, and Allen Hirschs Rat-Catcher, 148; Rigan McKin-neys Hot, 148, and Coeur, 145; C. Mahlon Klines Socialibility, 142; W. E. Wickes Jr.s Fonsilver, 140, and Herbert Dunns Leche Hombre, 138 pounds. Rigan McKinney, former topnotch jumping rider, who saddled The Heir to win last weeks Jervis Spencer Steeplechase Handicap here, will have two formidable representatives tomorrow in Coeur and Hot. Coeur worked a mile on the flat here in better than 1:40, while his stablemate has also turned in several good trials. Both have schooled well through the field, with Hot apparently having the edge in that respect. Coeur, however, showed good hurdle form last season. Larky Day was a stakes-winner on the flat in his earlier days, but was out of action for the entire 1948 racing season. He is reported to have shown to good advantage while being schooled here and should turn in a good effort. Several seasons back he made an attempt or two over the hurdles in New York, but enjoyed little success. He is in the hands of the capable Arthur White, and will be ridden by Danny Marzani, last years leading steeplechase rider. Trainer Jack Skinner will saddle Polinchinela II. and Rat-Catcher and could furnish the winner. Polinchinela II. finished in the runner-up position behind Pasture Rider at Middleburg, then was elevated to first place through disqualification. Pasture Rider came off the race to be a winner here yesterday, which gives an indication of the capabilities of Polinchinela n. Socialibility, also a winner at Middleburg, is conditioned by the capable Morris Dixon and could figure prominently. Fonsilver was an "also-ran" at Middleburg in the race which was awarded to Polinchinela n. Leche Hombre has shown little over the jumps and must improve to be a threat.
