i : i ; : : The Fat Lady Goes Mile Route in 1:40 Shaffer Miss Prepping for Royal Oak, First of Filly, Mare Features at Detroit FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 16. — The 0,000 Royal Oak Stakes, one mile and one-sixteenth test for three-year-old fillies, is to headline next Saturdays program at this course, and it is the first of a series of filly and mare fixtures scheduled for presentation during the current meeting. The Royal Oak closed May 11 with 18 nominations, and some high-class performers are listed in the group of eligi-bles for the half -holiday middle-distance test. Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers The Fat Lady occupied the Royal Oak spotlight this morning when she turned in an impressive mile trial over the fast track in 1:40. The Fat Lady, a well-conformed daughter of Bull Lea and Bay Servant, undoubtedly will be one of the keener factors in the Royal Oak, as her second to Calumet Farms Wistful in the Kentucky Oaks stamped her as a filly of considerable class. While local turfmen and dockers were discussing The Fat Ladys trial, word was received from Chicago that Mrs. Albert Sabaths good filly Alsabs Day will ship here Thursday morning to fill her Royal Oak engagement. Alsabs Day, leading money-winning two-year-old filly in 1948, hasnt been out since January at Hialeah, but she has worked nicely for her local debut and may go postward as the choice. Alsabs Day won the Pollyanna Stakes at Arlington Park last year and she also accounted for the Marguerite Stakes at Pim-lico, amassing earnings of 6,970. Richard to Ride Alsabs Day is conditioned by the veteran trainer, H. C. Dodson, and the quick, home-bred daughter of Alsab — Seventh Day will be handled in the week-end stake by jockey Jack Richard, who was astride Lextown in the recently decided Kentucky Derby. Other fast three-year-old misses expected to contest the Royal Oak are Dixianas Dainty Maid, Louis Lee Haggin, H.s, Stole, Hal Price Headleys Lithe, Louis J. Tutts Blue Jet, a handsome dark brown filly, the get of Blue Larkspur and Fair Perdita; Thomas Piatts Blue Molly, Arthur B. Hancocks Nitromond, Dr. Charles E. Hagyards Mona, a home-bred daughter of Bull Lea; White and Thomas Our Request, a winner here last Saturday, and possibly Mrs. Royce G. Martins Woodvale Farm pair, Lady Dorimar and Tall Weeds. »
