Hasty Freedoms Scores Over Lambent at Downs Victor Responds Well in Stretch To Craigs Urging to Get Verdict CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 16. — Mrs. Thelma Otts Hasty Freedoms, coupled in the mutuel wagering with J. J. and R. B. Daniels Loving Ties, was returned a driving and rather surprising winner of the third race as he responded readily when roused in the stretch run to overtake Tom B. Youngs Lambent in the final stages and prevailed over the latter by a half length. C. H. Howes f avored Sky-ann, with apprentice Jerry West at the reins, opened a commanding advantage immediately after the start of the six furlongs test but tired badly under punishment through the stretch and could finish no better than third another length and j one-half to the rear of the closely lapped j leaders. | .. Cleverly ridden by Arthur Craig, Hasty Freedoms negotiated the distance in the creditable time of 1:12% and rewarded his scattered backers 4.60, .80 and .00 across the board. Hasty Freedoms was content with the eighth position in the field of nine as Sky-ann .quickly sped into a three lengths lead soon after the start with Owlet, Lambent and Senecas Coin in closest pursuit. As the field swung into the home lane Skyann maintained a comfortable advantage and it appeared as she would justify the numerous patrons who had installed her the 8 to 5 choice. However, inside the stretch Lambent replaced the favorite as the latter began to display definite signs of weariness and at this point Craig brought his mount to the middle of the track for the final test and under good handling Hasty Freedoms was up in the last strides to prevail over j Lambent. Skyann held on. willingly to wrest the minor spoils of the purse from Au- j gustus and Nahms Preceder, who closed along the inside rail with a belated burst of speed.
