Hollywood Park to Award Fire Demolition Contract Removal of Debris Will Begin This Week at West Coast Track SANTA-ANITA PARK, Arcadia, Calif., May 16. — Thomas W. Simmons, president, and Jack Mackenzie, vice-president and general manager of Hollywood Park, announced Saturday that a contract for the demolition and removal of the twisted steel and debris, resulting from the fire Thursday, May 5, would be awarded within the next 48 hours. Simmons said, "We are anxious to get started back in operation. We were adequately covered by insurance, enough to rebuild immediately." Work will start at once, possibly by tomorrow. "It will be done just as fast as possible; in fact, we hope to have it ready by March," said Mackenzie. Arthur Froelich and Associates, who designed the original structure and who drew plans for the various improvements, have been retained to draw the plans for the rebuilding program. Some of the features of the new grandstand are: 1. Entire roof to be made of best fireproof materials available. In addition, everything such as seats and the interior trimmings and furnishings will be fireproofed by the most modern methods. 2. When completed the seating capacity will be not less than the original stand which had accommodations for 25,121 people under roof. This under roof seating capacity is not exceeded by any other race track in the United States. 3. Plans for the press box are somewhat indefinite, however, the probability istnat. it will be placed on the roof of the grandstand with either an elevator or an escalator provided. 4. The paddock will be moved out toward the infield and so placed that everyone seated in the stands will be able to command a good view of it.
