Gateman; bred by James McHenry. WENT TO POST— 2:33. OFF AT 2:34 EASTERN STANDARD TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. DOVER ROAD worked way forward to the stretch, was sent to the middle of the track for the drive and, responding to brisk handling, wore down HIS GRACE and then held WESTERN FRONT safe. WESTERN FRONT, outrun to the stretch, closed gamely under urging but could not reach the winner. WATERCLOCK began alertly, was on the outside throughout and could not threaten the leaders when set down in the drive. HIS GRACE, a keen factor from the start, reached the lead when settled in the stretch, then faltered during the final "furlong. SIR MONTE tired after racing prominently to the stretch. MIO LIPS began sluggishly, MARKSMAN was done early. MEYERSDALE was outrun. VALDINA SEER never was dangerous. IN gave way after displaying brief speed. Scratched— 72251 Doc Adams, 112. WONDRING, racing evenly to the stretch, took command when ready in the stretch and drew out to win as her rider pleased. POLKA began fast and made the pace until inside the stretch, but could not hold the winner. FAMOUS SHAKE held on well in a good efffort and had no mishap. DOGS UP raced evenly and had no excuse. GAY MELODY raced greenly. WILEY FOX had early speed, but failed to stay. MAD HARE was outrun. PRINCESS DARE, fractious at the post, fell inside the stall gate before start, then began alertly, but showed nothing thereafter. SCARLET WING raced wide. ROLL CLEAN, forced to take up immediately after the start, failed to recover. Scratched— Double E E, 118. Daily Double on the First and Second Races Paid 78.40; Double Pool, 2,664. NITROMOND, never far back, assumed command when settled in the stretch and drew clear when ridden out. CANARY BIRD went to the front at once, made the pace until inside the stretch, but was not good enough for the winner, although easily best of the others. RUN A RISK closed gamely in a good effort. PITCHER began sluggishly, then finished fast. MAHSHELL saved ground and raced prominently to the stretch before tiring. GINKAK was never a threat. FOXFLOSS was outrun. ALGIE was far back throughout. HIGH BOSS, forwardly placed throughout, swerved to the inside during the stretch run and, after impeding JIMMIE, won going away, but was disqualified for fouling and placed fourth. APPLEJACK JAKE, slow to begin and outrun to the stretch, finished fast, but could not reach HIGH BOSS. CARPET SWEEP gradually worked her way forward to the stretch and closed determinedly under urging. JIMMIE went to the tront early, made the pace to the stretch, but was taken up when crowded by HIGH BOSS during the drive and could not threaten thereafter. YANKEE RAIDER made a good bid entering the stretch, then faltered nearing the finish. PERCIEVE was through after a half-mile. ALLDEPENDS began fast, but could not keep up. ARB, never far back, bore out during the stretch run and could not better her position while under brisk urging. SOMA LAD failed to rally when set down in the drive. WISKTIGER was outrun.
