Fatal Interview Annexes Iroquois Memorial Chase NASHVILLE, Term., May 16.— With ideal weather conditions prevailing an estimated crowd of 25,000 crowded the hills overlooking Percy Warner Park course on Saturday afternoon to enjoy the five-race card presented under the auspices of the Volunteer State Horsemens Association. The days program, the eighth of its kind since its inauguration in 1941, presented the fans with a colorful afternoon of sport and was brought to a climax with the running of the Iroquois Memorial Steeplechase carrying a purse value of ,000. The Iroquois drew 16 starters and saw Lowry Watkins Fatal Interview emerge the winner after a gruelling duel over the three-mile hazardous course which includes 18 jumps. Ridden by his owner, this veteran performer took command after one full "trip around the one mile and one-half course, and repeatedly withstood bids from his rivals. At the finish, he held just a three- f quarters length lead over, H. M. Rhett Jr.s Brianson. Warra Nymph was third.
