Michigan Notes FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 16. Frank Ray, former Fair Grounds official, recently resigned his training post with the J. L. McKnight stable and he is considering an offer to take over the conditioning of several horses. William Boganowski, trainer for the Edward A. Carney stable, checked in from Churchill Downs with his charges. Carl Sitgraves also brought two horses in from the Derby oval. Raleigh X ees is looking after Elite Stud Farms Red Flash, Monolith, Crimson Pet and M. C. Haddix Balladette and Air Arm. John McShane, widely knoVn Dayton, Ohio; turfman, registered Obstinate Si, Balladon, Dull Gold, Not Sorry and No Heart to campaign under his silks at the current Fair Grounds meeting. Elzy Brown arrived from Louisville with Bernard J. Bax good sprinter, King Bay, and Queen B. King Bay holds a decision over Star Reward in the 1947 Peabody Memorial. x Jockey Norman Cartwright returned here today after successfully piloting James C. Ellis Aunt Jayne Z. in the Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs. Cartwright is under contract to the Ellis stable. M. H. VanBerg, who has 15 horses stabled at the local course, and 10 others quartered in Chicago, arrived from the Windy City and. inspected the Motor City division. VanBerg plans to commute between Detroit and Chicago during the cur-cent season. Jack Welch, master of Whileaway Farm, Lexington, Ky., is an arrival from the Blue Grasis sector and he plans to remain" for several days of the Fair Grounds sport. Dick Farris, ah official with the Michigan division of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association, checked in from his Louisville home and will remain for the balance of the Motor City season. Mrs. Farris has several horses in training here under the supervision of Harry Trot-sek.
