j . , Clevelands Injury List Haunts Lopez Return of Lemon to Ease Situation; Feller, Gromek And Easter Still Sidelined CLEVELAND, Ohio May 7 UP.— The promised return of Bob Lemon against the New York Yankees Wednesday, cheered Cleveland manager Al Lopez somewhat today, but he still faced the most serious injury problem in the majors. Lemon pulled a back muscle last week, and has been out of action since. He figured to start the first game of the Yankee series Wednesday, however. Otherwise, half the Indians seemed to be on the bench and the other half home in bed. Here is the list: Bob Feller was forced to bypass his pitching assignment against the Washington Senators Sunday because of a back ailment and wont be able to work until the end of this week. Steve Gromek is out with the flu. Easter Has Sprained Knee .First baceman Luke Easter, a .423 batter, rides the bench with a sprained knee. He, too, may be back later in the week. Easter has been replaced by Harry "Suitcase" Simpson, a 25 -year-old rookie who has never played first base. He does not whack the ball the way Easter can, but he is handling the first base job well. Feller and Lemon are the key men, especially the way they have been pitching this year. To the tune of the usual "Hes through" wails, Feller methodically chopped down the first three opponents he faced this year for a 3-0 record. He went the full distance in all three, which may be the tip-off on his abilities for this season. Lemon has won three and lost one. He needed relief twice, once in winning and the other in losing. Gromek got into only one game and lost it in relief . With those three out, the starters left are Early Wynn and Mike Garcia. Wynn won his first two, but then lost two. Garcia has won both his games, going the distance each time. Lou Brissie, acquired from the Philadelphia As in the big trade of last week, lost his first try Sunday to the Senators.
