Six Distance Runners In South Pacific Purse Sir David, Brezno, Battle H. Clash in Sportsmans Event SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 7. — Tomorrows feature race at Sportsmans Park has been named in honor of the stage hit, South Pacific, and the company which has been appearing in the opus in Chicago for the past several months will be guests of the management. The distance will be one and one -sixteenth miles, and six good distance racers have been designated to start. They are W. H. Bishops Sir David, C. Warnings Brezno, A. E. Harpers Battle H, P. J. Valentis Caillou Rouge, E. H. Moodys Mr. Dink, and J. G. Nathans Pay Window. None of the half dozen named for the South Pacific have been returned victorious at the meeting, but Sir David in one try finished in front of Pay Window, and Mr. Dink, in another, beat Brezno to the wire. That was the affair in which the Bishop racer was third to Hypostyle and Not Sorry, two speedy horses. Caillou Rouge was last in the Spring Handicap in his most recent attempt, but was fourth in the Royal Minstrel Handicap on opening day, edging out such as Little Flower, Not Sorry and Brezno. Battle H. was fourth to Lucky Codine, False and Little Flower in the Spring Handicap. The secondary feature, a five-furlong dash, has been named for Janet Blair and Richard Eastham, the stars of South Pacific. No doubt many, after catching a glimpse of Miss Blair, will back Kissable as a hunch. Reticule, unler lease from King Ranch; Open Way, with a win and a second here, and Beautys Tiger, who ran in stake races last year, are among others in the 10-horse field. It seemed as if the National Jockey Club might be favored with fine weather for their final week. Today was very seasonable and* should climatic conditions continue to improve it could be that the pari-mutuel business for the 14 days will show a million dollar increase. It was over a half million to the good going into todays bill. |
