ACTNICE gradually improved position to the stretch, responded to strong handling during the drive and, after disposing of STAR PIGEON, won going away. STAR PIGEON, a sharp factor from the start, engaged POUTING MAC to the stretch, opened a good lead when settling for the drive, but could not withstand the top one. FOUR PETS lost ground at the final turn and could not get to the leaders when straight for the drive. VERANO began sluggishly, but finished fast. TOLECA had early speed, but failed to stay. NANCHANG moved to the front early, made the pace to the stretch under occasional urging, responded to punishment early in the drive and, after disposing of TEXAS COIN, won going away. TEXAS COIN began fast, engaged NANCHANG after the start, but could not overtake the latter when set down through the stretch. HOBAD raced well throughout, but could not get to the leaders. TOMMY ALAN lacked early speed after breaking alertly and was never dangerous. SHAT-EL-ARAB was outrun. JOHNS PRIDE, never far back, raced by DELINDA after entering the stretch, then held on gamely to withstand DELIGHTED. The latter gradually improved position, closed resolutely under punishment but could not overtake the winner. DELINDA, away slowly, was hustled to the front early, made the pace to the last eighth, then faltered. PAPPYS REBEL was unable to better his position when set down through the stretch. TRIM BULL, keen factor from the outset, finished willingly under brisk urging but was unable to reach the top one, although much the best of the others. LADY BETTIS began sluggishly and raced far back to the stretch, made a mild bid when set down in the drive but could not seriously threaten the leaders. SANDMAN tired during the stretch run. MIGHTY BROKE had no mishap and displayed early foot. LATEASNOT was never a serious factor. HAPPY ROUNDUP raced wide. WISE SMUG gave way after showing early speed. GAY LIBERTY, a keen factor from the start, reached the lead when settled in the stretch, but could not withstand the winner. JIMPIN made a good bid nearing the stretch, but faltered during the drive. WEEP NO MORE, forwardly placed after the break, assumed command entering the stretch, but tired. ALUN lacked early speed and never reached serious contention. MISS DACE was outrun. The latter, in hand to the last three-eighths, was sent to the inside of SAINT NICHOLAS for the stretch run and closed willingly, but could not overtake the top one. FRESH BREEZE was sent to the outside for the stretch run, but could not get to the leaders. INDIAN GOLD saved ground throughout, made a good bid nearing the final turn, but tired during the drive. WATCH SUSAN was never dangerous. WAGRAM went to the front early, made the pace for a half mile, then weakened. Overweight— Watch Susan, 1 pound.
