I., N. Y., May 7.— F. Ambrose Clarks veteran Tea-Maker charged to the end of the six-furlong Jamaica Handicap a half-length before Peter A. Markeys Piet, who was after his third straight victory in the 5,000 sprint stake today. However, Warren Mehrtens was unable to keep the Lovely Night gelding straight in the stretch and Eric Guerin, who finished fourth on Mrs. Jan Burkes Magic Words, promptly lodged an objection. Mrs. Louis Lazares Sheilas Reward was third under the wire, a length behind Piet and a little more than two lengths before Magic Words. After studying the film patrol movies and interviewing the jockeys, a process requiring several minutes, the stewards disqualified Tea-Maker, placing him last. The verdict was received with mixed emotions by the large crowd. Piet, who was thus given his third Jamaica Handicap triumph, paid .40 and was timed a moderate 1:11% for the six furlongs. Piet was carrying 124 pounds today, 10 more than he required when winning the stake in 1949 and 1950, and earned 1,875 for his Detroit owner. Though not directly concerned in the foul, Piet had his troubles, Jim Nichols having to take him from the rail to the outside in the upper stretch, and then having to swing still wider to avoid the onrushing Tea-Maker. Attendance of 25,916 Sol Rutchick, absentee trainer of the Derby winner, Count Turf, was guest announcer in the press box today, bringing word from the admissions department that there were 25,916 patrons in attendance, as well as pertinent facts about his charge, which appear elsewhere in this edition. Magic Words was first out of the gate in the Jamaica, but Jimmy Stout quickly rushed Call Over into command, while Sheilas Reward also took a slight lead over Magic Words. Tea-Maker was a couple of lengths farther back, while Piet was trailing the field of seven daylight behind War King and Hyphasis. Between the turns, Call Over, Sheilas Reward, Magic Words and Tea-Maker were almost on a line and they continued that way through the stretch, while Piet was closing very fast on the rail. Curving for home, Tea-Maker moved up on the outside to take the lead, while Nichols found himself blocked on the rail and had to move out. Tea-Maker, who wears a runout bit, crossing in front of Piet, though not bothering him particularly and going on in to hit Magic Words rather solidly. Once they were straightened away, Piet set out in pursuit of the leader, and though cutting his margin with every stride, never looked like a winner until Guerin placed his objection from far back. A. G. Vanderbilts Sweet Talk surged up on the outside near the end of the Prudery Purse to score by two lengths over Isidor Biebers Nothirdchance, who led Henry Lewis JJJ.s Gorgeous Reded by a length. Belair Studs Vulvania tired badly and finished almost a length out of the money after setting the early pace. Eric Guerin completed a consecutive double on Sweet Talk, having won the fourth event on Vera S. Braggs Goddess. HELEN S. REI NEMAN— Royal Challa carried the Chicago sportswomans colors to victory in yesterdays fourth race at Sportsmans Park.
