USGA Issues National Open Tourney Deadline Reminder NEW YORK, N. Y., May 7 UP.— The U. S. Golf Association issued a reminder today that entries for the U. S. Open championship close at 5 p. m. EDT May 21. So far only 410 entries have been received and among the missing is Ben Ho-gan, who won the crown in a playoff with Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio. Man-grum and Fazio werent taking any chances, though. Their entries were among the first. Included among the early entry blanks were former champions Gene Sarazen, Craig Wood, Lawson Little, Tommy Armour, Tony Manero and Lew Worsham, as well as PGA champ Chandler Harper, U. S. Amateur king Sam Urzetta and British Amateur champion Frank Stranahan. A total of 1,379 entered last year. The Open this year is scheduled at Birmingham, Mich., June 14-16.
