The three-year-old Congressional mare, owned by the Plum Bottom Stable, Mau-mee, Ohio, will start against six older campaigners in a one mile trip over the half-mile oval. Baby Chuck, trained and piloted by Ernie Smith, zoomed into prominence last 1 week after she disposed of a field of reportedly tougher pacers. She first aroused attention on April 30 when she clicked off a 2:14.3 mile while beating Jeffrie Jester and Azumack. Then, competing against a 11 -horse field, she qualified for the Vatavia Stake by finishing second to Josephine Song in 2:10.3. With Josephine Song and Earl Best, winner of the other elimination heat and the seven other qualifiers, Baby Chuck moved to the fore by defeating the first ■ with a 2:11.2 clip. When three different heat winners were i recorded, the rules required that all three . victors, Baby Chuck, Josephine Song and I Earl Best, vie for over-all honors in a ; three-horse race. Here, Baby Chuck stood out. She went to the top and was never headed by either Earl Best or Josephine Song, which finished in that order behind Baby Chuck in a comfortable 2:13.2 mile. Tomorrow night Josephine Song will have an opportunity to gain a little re- , venge, having drawn in for the race with Baby Chuck. In addition to these rivals, race secretary Ted Leonard attracted Vic- tory Jacky, McNamara, Kahoka Girl, . Ruth Day and Lusty Jester to race against ; these promising sidewheelers. Judging from performances to date, this I race should provide harness enthusiasts with one of the best miles of the meeting. A pair of Illinois-owned or bred racers also have been carded for Tuesday night. The first half of the double brings to-5 gether a field of youthful pacers, namely: Evelyn L., Altoona, Miss Bonnie, Miss [ Speed, Scarlet Scourge, Veda Council, Jer- . ry Darnley and Woodlawn Rocket. The other home-owned or bred affair is . slated for the nightcap, another mile pace. • This field will consist of Lincoln Cash, Quick Cash, Maxine Cash, Sasha Jane, Martha C, Patsy Ann Dale and Hollyrood i Hanover.
