Jack the Great, Nerve Seeking Display Purse Each Credited With Quartet Of Wins in Spring Campaign PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 7.— Walter A. Edgars Jack the Great and Frank Ulrichs Nerve, each of whom has registered a quartet of victories during the spring season, will strive to further improve their already impressive records when they match strides against five other three-year-olds in tomorrows featured Display Purse, a dash of five and one-half furlongs. Named to compete against the aforementioned duo are C. Ewing Tuttles Tenure, Brookmeade Stables Blue Helmet, Alan T. Clarkes Senator Joe, Yarrow Brae Stables Big Bull and Justin Funkhousers Narrator. Jack the Great has stamped himself as one of the most proficient sophomores in this sector when confined to sprint distances. He has won four of five races, his lone defeat coming at the heels of Alerted in the Laurel Stakes, in which he was beaten but two lengths. He was regarded highly enough to have been made eligible for the Derby and Belmont, but it seems that the distances of those fixtures are beyond his capabilities. Nerve, a Charing Cross filly, finished in front in her first five starts this year, only to be disqualified on one occasion. Then she met Jack the Great in her last start at Bowie and bowed by only a neck to the Jack High gelding. Even then, she may mav been the winner had she not drifted out through the home lane, a trait which caused her number to be taken down at Laurel. Making his seasonal debut in the Display will be tenure, a speedy son of Occupy. This fellow was a shifty sort last season, when he won three of his 11 starts and might have been returned victorious in a homebred stake at Laurel had he not encountered poor racing luck. His training cannot be faulted and he seems ready for a top effort at first asking. Blue Helmet is a speed merchant from the Brookmeade barn and was second to Euclid in his most recent start, after being unable to draw clear while setting the early pace. He will come in for a fair share of support tomorrow at the abbreviated five and one-half furlongs distance, and is eligible to lead throughout. Of the others, Senator Joe is clearly the best, as evidenced by two victories, a pair of thirds and a fourth in five starts this season. He has enjoyed a two-week respite from competition, which could easily aid the Alakmg colt. Big Bull has raced poorly against ,000 and ,000 claimers this spring, while Narrators record is somewhat similar. Either would have to show sudden and vast improvement to rate consideration in the Display.
